TPC Sugarloaf

TPC Sugarloaf, host of the AT&T Classic, is located north of Atlanta in Duluth, Georgia. The summer of 2007 was one of Atlanta’s hottest on record -

a 20 day stretch of temperatures at least 95 degrees, including seven days topping 100.

TPC Sugarloaf Superintendent, Mike Crawford, looking to replace his 10 year old greens fans, became interested in TurfBreeze fans after they came highly recommended by other superintendents. Several of Crawford’s greens tend to struggle in Atlanta’s brutal summer heat and humidity due to stagnant air, reduced sunlight and heavy traffic.

Eight TurfBreeze fans were installed at TPC Sugarloaf in late spring 2007 while the greens were in excellent condition. By mid June the fans were running 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

"In mid to late summer, as the extreme heat started to arrive," says Crawford, "we could see the greens were doing very well compared to previous years when using other fans that did not produce the air flow volume of our TurfBreeze fans. At the end of the summer, with these new fans, our greens that annually have been our weakest, coming out of the summer, were now some of our strongest because of the TurfBreeze fans."
