The Northwood Club
The Northwood Club, located in Dallas, Texas was designed by Jay Marsh and William Dibble. The Northwood Club hosted the US Open in 1952.
Superintendent, Kevin Carpenter knew about SubAir when he arrived at The Northwood Club, but had never seen it in action. After just a few months, Carpenter was a SubAir believer.
"We were utilizing two portable units to aid in greens drainage after large rain events and knew that we could further the benefits by installing permanent units to each green," says Carpenter. "SubAir allows us to control the moisture in our greens by removing excess water. We can use the systems to aid in cooling the greens during the summer months, plus the added benefit of introducing additional oxygen into the root zone."
Carpenter set a plan in motion to install two systems per year selecting the locations that would receive the most benefit. In three to four years, a permanent SubAir will be operational on each green, making SubAir an integral part of Northwood’s maintenance routine. Explains Carpenter, "Whether we are running SubAir in pressure or vacuum, they run daily to give us an additional tool in our maintenance."
