Victoria National Golf Club

Victoria National is a Tom Fazio design, currently ranked #22 on Golf Digest’s Top 100. Newburgh is located in the southwestern corner of Indiana in the humid Ohio River Valley. One of Victoria National’s many unique features is the fact that the entire maintainable acreage consists of cool-season grasses

"At Victoria National, we turn on our TurfBreeze fans on a more frequent basis as temperatures reach 85 degrees . This usually occurs near late May in our region. We utilize our fans on a preventative basis operating them 24 hours a day all summer long. We typically turn off our fans in late September when we start achieving daily temps below 85 degrees and as night temperatures get substantially lower. Using TurfBreeze preventively in 2007, we turned our historically worst greens into our best. Positive results were achieved despite experiencing the hottest August ever on record for the Evansville area. These greens performed great all year long and required much less attention than our other greens. During times of peak heat, we found we could reduce canopy temperatures more than 10 degrees in many areas. There is also a lot to be said for the positive effects fans have at night. Reducing leaf wetness and lowering temperatures at night brings additional relief to greens in difficult growing environments. I would recommend TurfBreeze fans even for courses that do not experience the heat extremes we do. There are many courses around the country that experience temperatures above 86 degrees and warm night temperatures. Fans have the ability of turning many of these borderline temperature days into cool-season grass thriving environments rather than declining environments. As we experience a difficult economy, many clubs are forced to make tough decisions relating to various areas of their operating costs. Maintaining good greens becomes that much more important to attracting customers and continuing to exceed member expectations. Often times the total labor and repair costs associated with tending to a problematic green can outweigh the costs associated with installing a fan, especially, when these costs are totaled over multiple years. We have also observed the benefits fans bring to high traffic walk-off areas such as collars and rough immediately next to the green."
