Country Club of Orlando
In 2011, Country Club of Orlando will celebrate 100 years. Designed by Donald Ross, it is one of the most prestigious private golf clubs in Central Florida.
Country Club of Orlando Superintendent, Jim Ellison describes himself as a"turf purist," but believes in the technology of SubAir. "Our #12 green struggled with issues of partial shade and drainage. There was no morning sunlight until about 9:30 or 10:00 and the turf had begun to decline. Cutting down trees was not an option. My recommendation was to install SubAir," says Ellison. Just a few months later, Ellison could see progress. "There was root elongation, and on the back side of the green where there was limited morning sun, the difference was significant." This progress became the selling point to move forward with the installation of SubAir on other greens with restricted sunlight. In early summer of 2007, two more SubAir Elites were installed at #5 and #6 greens.
"SubAir’s ability to move moisture and air through the soil profile helps create the ideal root zone environment. These are the most important principles for plant growth and apply to any grass type," explains Ellison. "Over the years I’ve followed the progress of SubAir and have met with their agronomists and representatives. I believe their team is committed to the research and development that will keep SubAir on the cutting edge."
