Augusta Country Club

Augusta Country Club, located in Augusta, Georgia, was founded in 1899. Using the original Donald Ross drawings, the Club restored its course in 2001 under the direction of golf course architect, Brian Silva.

Citing turf industry research showing that cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air offers the most benefit to the quality and survival of bentgrass greens during hot, humid summers, Augusta Country Club Superintendent, Greg Burleson, convinced club officials to purchase eight TurfBreeze fans.

"Changes did not occur quickly," says Burleson. "The golfers seemed to notice the turf improvement before I did. In about 30 days, golfers were very positive about the turf condition on the greens with fans. I chose to hold my opinion until after August. Little did I know that we would have record temperatures in August with 13 days over 100 degrees. During and after this stretch of hot weather, the greens with fans performed beautifully," continues Burleson. "They did not succumb to heat stress or wilt in a manner typical of these adverse conditions. These plants were a lot healthier going into August because of constant air movement across the leaf blade in June and July. All summer, the greens were firmer and ball marks were easier to repair due to the root mass."
